I am not one to refer to myself as spontaneous, however, one could argue otherwise considering I requested to have both of my helix’s pierced when I went to have my tattoo done, on the spot. I thought about asking to have them pierced on my way to the studio, and when I saw the girl who was in charge of piercings, I asked her to do both.

She warned me in advance most people don’t typically get both done at the same time; rather, one, then once it’s healed, the other. I pride myself on convenience, though, so I figured, hey, why the hell not; let’s get ’em both done in one shot.

The first one hurt like a son of a bitch, and the second actually a little less. The girl told me this was unusual, because, in most situations, the second one hurts more because the adrenaline of the first piercing has started to wear off. I like to think I’m unique in this situation.

Anyways, although the initial piercing hurt, the next day was an entirely new level of pain, as was sleeping that night, and every night since. I wasn’t able to sleep on my side for a solid week (I would make Dracula proud), and even now it’s still pretty painful to do so. I got fed up with sleeping like a vampire, though, so I said screw it and slept in pain anyways.

Showering is also a bit of a chore, specifically shampooing and conditioning hair. As it brushing hair, or styling hair in any way, shape or form. You don’t realize how often your ears get jostled around until they’re swollen and bruised from having a hole punched through them.

Did getting my helix’s hurt? Damn right they did. Do I regret it? Nope, and I love my new piercings.
