Today is Christmas, and what better way to discuss the significance of this day than with a blog post dedicated to the subject. The countdowns are over, the advent calendars have been eaten, and the day is finally here.
There is something rather magical about waking up on Christmas morning. You may feel well-rested, and take a few extra minutes to enjoy the comfort of your pillow and blanket. Or, perhaps you didn’t sleep enough because you were running around the night before, trying to get some last minute wrapping done.
Maybe you have a family, and soon enough you’re woken by giggles and laughter from your children who are beyond excited to start opening gifts. Perhaps you’re a family without children, and you savour Christmas morning in bed, cuddling your partner.
In our house, we typically eat breakfast, get any farm chores out of the way, then open gifts. After that, we sit in each other’s company in the living room for a little while, and then get ready for what the rest of the day holds (this year, my Opa is coming to the farm for Christmas dinner).
I find it quite interesting that one holiday can be celebrated in so many different ways, depending on a household and its inhabitants. Perhaps Christmas is a casual affair for you and your family, and you spend the day simply relaxing, without any concrete plans. Maybe Christmas is the most anticipated day of the year in your house, and the day is jam-packed with activities to make the most of the holiday.
However you celebrate Christmas, I wish you all a truly wonderful holiday season, and all the best in the new year. Spend today with loved ones, whoever they may be, and cherish the time you are able to spend with them.
