Work ethic is timeless in terms of its value. If you’re someone who possesses strong work ethic, you’re at a tremendous advantage over those who don’t when it comes to the work world.
The problem is, though, that strong work ethic seems to be becoming more and more scarce in popularity, and from my understanding, employers are beginning to take note. I’ve had several conversations with friends and family about a lack of work ethic amongst employees as of late, and despite employers’ dwindling patience, I don’t see the situation getting better anytime soon.
You may be wondering what exactly good work ethic consists of. While I am no expert, I did grow up, and continue to work on a farm, so proper work ethic is something I learned relatively quickly from a young age (as many farm kids do).
I consider strong work ethic to involve the initiative and dedication required to ensure something is done correctly, with solid effort. It involves going above and beyond to complete a task properly and effectively, without hesitation or complaint.
Pretty straightforward, right?
Despite the simplicity of the concept, I’ve noticed that genuine work ethic seems to be lacking amongst a majority of people working at different jobs, and I find it concerning. For whatever reason, there seems to be a disregard from employees to responsibly accept their duties from employees in their roles at work (not all, but some), and this lackadaisical attitude is detrimental to the work world overall. Why bother applying for a job if you’re not going to give it your best effort?
The stance of this post is grounded in my own opinion, and I’m aware not everyone will agree with me. But, I find it difficult to believe no one else has come to recognize this issue, and it’s important to be able to discuss it openly.
