Feeling lost? It could be a good thing

The sensations of feeling saddened or overwhelmed aren’t exactly the most desirable ways to categorize our feelings, normally speaking. We typically associate the concept of feeling lost with negativity and therefore don’t try to make ourselves feel such a way, but according to an article from The Good News Network, “If You Feel Like Things Are Falling Apart, They Are Probably Actually Coming Together,” the article’s title states.

“Most of us don’t relish change—and we’d rather remain stuck inside a cocoon than fly like a butterfly. This excerpt by Tama Kieves, from her recent book Thriving Through Uncertainty: Moving Beyond Fear of the Unknown and Making Change Work for You, is meant to help you see that another world is available to you. All you have to do is let go:

There is no other world.

“We have all sung this dirge in one form or another. There is no love for me outside this loveless marriage. There is no money for me beyond this draining career. There is no way to have things fall together now, because if they were supposed to come together they would have; I must be riding on a rickshaw while everyone else caught the plane.

“It takes enormous courage to believe that things can be different. Or that there is a life beyond what you can see or even imagine—or a you—that is whole and inspired.

“Life is designed to shimmy. We are designed to let go of our lobster shells and grow into new ones. Your true happiness does not come from a stable stock market, a feast of jobs or potential relationships or climate control. It’s about learning how to thrive in the times when you lack control. Boys and girls, we live in dynamic times,” the article says, referencing Kieves.

I think this ideology offered by Kieves within the article is one that has never had more relevance to us as a society considering everything that has been thrown our way this year. Perhaps a shift in perspective is all we need to recognize that sometimes adversity is the best source of personal growth.
