The significance of finding your style

I’ve never considered myself terribly fashionable. I don’t keep up with trends, or what is in and what is not, and to be honest, I don’t really care, either; I figure if I’m happy in what I’m wearing, there really isn’t a need for me to check in on what is trending and popular.

That isn’t to say I don’t find fashion trends interesting at times, depending on certain styles – I might not care that much for what is relevant, but I do get curious occasionally, if that makes any sense. My stance toward fashion is a bit paradoxical, I know. Perhaps even hypocritical, depending on how severely you wish to scrutinize.

One of the main reasons I don’t concern myself too intensely with fashion is because I’m usually wearing work clothes; I work on my family’s farm, so I’m typically rocking some type of athletic joggers, runners, a ratty/ripped shirt, and sometimes a ball cap. I do have my ‘going out’ clothing for the odd occurrence I leave the parameters of the farm and venture into town, and as of late, I’ve been finding myself wanting to enhance my wardrobe.

I guess one could say I have ‘found’ my style, which, up until this point in my life, I wasn’t entirely sure how to describe. I have come to realize that my style is simple and chic – comfortable, versatile, and relatively neutral. I’ve been dabbling more in colour lately and have been enjoying doing so, especially since the majority of my shirts and sweaters are black.

I’ve always loved women’s fashion from the 90s era, and I’ve been attempting to incorporate that into my own style without being tacky. This recent shift is what prompts me to consider the idea I’ve found my own style, and I am feeling quite content with this change.
