Happy Mother’s Day

In the instance you were entirely unaware, today is Mother’s Day. If you haven’t gotten/done anything for your mom, please use this post as a friendly reminder to go and do so.

I’ve said it before and I’ll probably never stop saying it, but as corny and typical as it sounds, I firmly believe mothers should be celebrated and appreciated each and every day, not just on Mother’s Day. The same rule goes for fathers, but for the sake of today’s post, we are focusing on the loved and cherished maternal figures in our lives.

My own mom deserves to be celebrated on a daily basis, if you ask me, and I would wager most folks would say the same about their own mom. My mother has put herself last in respect to her needs, wants and desires and has ensured her family is taken care of first and foremost throughout the duration of my life, and I truly am forever indebted to her for everything she has done, does, and will arguably continue to do for me and our family.

Additionally, today serves as a wonderful opportunity to recognize those who aren’t necessarily biological mothers but act as maternal figures in whatever context. Whether it be friends, aunts, cousins, grandmothers, sisters, foster mothers, adoptive mothers, surrogate mothers, or any other maternal role, today is about acknowledging them and showing our appreciation and gratitude for them.

I would also like to recognize anyone who may be having a difficult day today because their mothers are no longer with them, because they yearn to be a mom themselves, or perhaps because they themselves never had someone in their life to take on a maternal position.

Let’s hear it for all the moms out there, today and every day, We owe them everything, including life itself.
