Driving

Before you read the name of the post and think to yourself ‘What in the absolute hell,’ allow me to explain.

I’m sure a lot of people can agree with me when I say that driving is one of the best things to do when in need of some emotional peace. I don’t know what it is about driving down a vacant road with the windows down and the music blasting that is so soothing, but it is definitely something I do when I am feeling overwhelmed or when I just need to get away from stress.

Where I live, it is fairly easy to find a deserted dirt road and claim it as your own while you belt out old school Shania Twain and Alan Jackson, and push the speedometer to 80km. So, if you ever see me doing this, you may think I am having some type of epileptic episode, but I assure you I am not. I’m probably just singing to the best of my ability, which I will admit is really, really awful. I sound like a goat being castrated.

Back to the purpose of this post. Driving down dirt roads on a summer night, with the wind jostling my hair and the radio blaring country music, is really relaxing to me. It seems a little senseless, seeing as it it wastes a lot of valuable gas, but it is one guaranteed way to calm me down and bring me back to a happier mindset.

I also find driving by myself to be a great time to just think. Sometimes I like turning the radio off and just letting my mind wander, and I honestly surprise myself with some of the things I have buried deep inside my mind that I don’t acknowledge on a daily basis. It’s a great way to rid yourself of accumulated negative thoughts, and just start fresh. Just be sure to pay attention to your driving while you are engaged in this deep automobile meditation. We don’t want any ditch-diving happening.

What’s your favourite thing to do to de-stress? Let me know in the comments!

Thanks for reading. :)
