Simple Pleasures

Possessing the ability to identify the small things in life that bring you happiness is an important skill to have.

I know it sounds like such a typical cliche, to ‘enjoy the simples things’, but I think there is a lot of truth in the idea that sometimes the smallest and most insignificant things can bring you the most joy. It is far too easy to get caught up in the stresses of everyday living and forget how something minor can bring you joy.

Some of my favourite simple pleasures are, again, pretty cliche, but that’s fine by me. One of my favourite things is to lay in bed at night and listen to a thunderstorm. Something about hearing the distant booming and seeing the flashes of lightning through my blinds is really relaxing, and it brings me happiness.

Another simple pleasure of mine is taking baths. I know, it sounds super basic. But I genuinely look forward to coming home from a long day and sitting in a warm bathtub filled with bubbles and reading a good book. It’s a great stress reliever and definitely reminds me to slow down and acknowledge what is around me.

I don’t really know if this would even be considered simple pleasure, but I’m calling it one. Breakfast is something simple that brings me happiness. I genuinely look forward to starting my day by sitting down with a bowl of oatmeal and berries and a steaming mug of coffee, and catching up on some reading or talking to my mom and dad in the morning. It’s stress free and reminds me to take a breath and enjoy the company of my family.

What are some of your favourite ‘simple pleasures’? Let me know in the comments, and as always, thank you for reading. :)
