I have always used hot tools to style my hair. When I was younger I relied tremendously on straighteners, and now that my hair is longer I typically reach for my curling wand.
As much as I love the results provided by styling tools, I’m not a fan of the damage they tend to leave in their wake. I have noticed lately a fair amount of breakage throughout my strands, specifically the hair surrounding my face, so I figured it would be a good idea to purchase some sort of protective spray for my tresses when I use hot tools.
I picked up OGX’s Silk Blowout Quick Drying Thermal Spray from my local Shoppers Drugmart, and from what I remember it cost roughly $10. It contains quinoa, which I find surprising, and it is intended to be applied to damp hair from root to tip and combed through. I spritz this stuff all over my hair when I get out of the shower, however, I have applied it to dry hair as well, and because it dries so quickly I think either application choice works efficiently.
It is tough to adequately review this product because I haven’t noticed any significant change in my hair since using it, but at the same time, this product isn’t meant to repair already damaged hair. I think it may be the sort of thing that requires a lot of usage over time in order to determine whether or not it makes a difference when it comes to protecting hair from heat, but because I haven’t noticed any negative changes in my hair, I will continue using it. It smells lovely, dries quickly, is inexpensive and leaves my hair feeling soft to the touch, which is definitely something I can appreciate. I will continue to experiment with it, and if I find that it really is protecting my hair from heat, I’ll be sure to let you know.
