What is your ~aesthetic~?

Now that Blaine and I are far more settled in our home than we were a few weeks ago, I’ve started giving some thought to home decor and how exactly I would like to begin dabbling in the creative process of decorating. I shouldn’t say I’m just beginning this creative journey, I suppose; a few of the rooms in our home are just about finished in terms of furniture and final touches, but the rest ain’t, and it’s starting to bother me.

I am someone who thrives in an organized, clutter-free environment, so trust me when I say I’ve been more twitchy than not with all of the randomness happening in our home in regards to furniture. We’re getting there, just not as quickly as my inner OCD would like.

We completely gutted and rebuilt, with the help of a contractor, our home, which happens to be an older farmhouse. I loooooooove older farmhouses as they contain a lot of history and oddities, and because I’m pretty fucking odd myself, I think it’s a great fit.

Our home has the same floor throughout – it looks like hardwood, except it isn’t, and it’s pretty durable and water resistant, which is something both Blaine and I can appreciate. There is a lot of wood in our house and light paint colours, so thus far, I’ve been trying my best to stick with farmhouse vibes, as ridiculous as that sounds.

After the renovations, this home is more of a modern farmhouse, but it still has that homey, warm feel, which I plan to implement within each and every space here. I would like to get some area rugs to break up the flooring, plus I doubt our feet wouldn’t mind the warmth a carpet offers come winter.

Since we have begun the process of decorating our home, I would say my style is rustic, simple, and warm. What’s yours?
