Ahhhh, spooky season. It is my favourite and always has been, and while the weather here in Southern Ontario is certainly more summer-like than fall-like, I can find peace in knowing the best time of year is not too far away.
When Blaine and I turned on Netflix the other night, hoping to find something new and exciting to watch, he proposed Halloween Kills. Neither of us had seen this film, but we have seen all of the others in the Halloween franchise, so we agreed it would be an appropriate choice.
Released in 2021, Halloween Kills picks up right where the former film installment left off. Laurie Strode and her family yet again find themselves in the fight of their life, up against, you guessed, the apparently unkillable Michael Myers.
This guy has more lives than a damn cat. It’s a bit ridiculous, really, but anyone who has seen these films can attest to just how much of a tough son of a bitch Michael Myers is.
As the movies have progressed over the years, characters have been added to the franchise, for example, Laurie’s daughter, Karen, and her granddaughter, Allyson. Convinced Michael Myers will not rest until her kin becomes his next victim, Laurie and her family come together with countless others who have been directly or indirectly affected by Myers’ antics to attempt to stop him once and for all.
SPOILER: Shockingly, their plan doesn’t prove to be successful, hence why Halloween Kills is not the final installment in the film franchise.
I was a little taken aback to read such poor reviews of this movie online because I actually found it to be a decent horror movie. Was it predictable? Most of the time, yeah, minus the ending. There were a few moments that had my heart actually pounding, though, so the suspense element is definitely there.
I recommend this film to anyone who has seen any of the other movies involving the famous Michael Myers.
