Blaine has been rather forthcoming with his excitement regarding a documentary that recently premiered via Netflix. Titled Sly, the documentary is all about Sylvester Stallone – his life, his family, his wins and his losses.
Blaine absolutely loves Sylvester Stallone because he is a tremendous fan of the Rocky movies. To be honest, I think Blaine views Stallone as one of his idols, and I don’t blame him one bit. I imagine Mr. Stallone, as Rocky, made some serious impressions on many young kids when the movies first premiered.
The reason I have idols in subquotes in my title is because I am Catholic and therefore am not supposed to idolize anyone or anything aside from God. Idolization is one thing, and respect and appreciation are another, so I thought I would share some of the people I respect and appreciate, as opposed to idolize, with all of you.
First is Freddie Mercury. What this man did for rock and roll music, the band Queen itself, and for people struggling with identity and inclusivity issues is unmatched. He is the reason I first started listening to rock music, and without him and his iconic voice, I imagine I would have a rather serious void in my life.
Ilona Maher is a professional female rugby player who brings the true meaning of the sport to the pitch each and every time she shows up. She lives, breathes and bleeds rugby, and is a wonderful advocate for female athletes and women in sports in general.
Simone Biles is the goat of gymnastics, but she is a hell of a lot more than that. She is passionate and outspoken about mental health, something I feel as though more individuals with large followings and platforms should speak on.
These are some examples that come to mind when I consider people who contribute positive things to our society. Who are some of yours?
