Native soap: is it worth the hype?

I’ve been seeing advertisements for Native soap via my social media platforms for quite some time now. I can recall initially seeing ads for Native deodorant, and apparently, now we have progressed into soap; regardless of the hygiene hierarchy, I couldn’t really understand what all the hype was about this brand until I discovered it is what is considered a ‘clean’ company, meaning their products are free a lot of the harsh chemicals and unnecessary additives many other hygiene products on the market contain.

I haven’t tried Native deodorant, but this past weekend, I had to venture to my local drugstore to pick up a few items. Native soap was on sale, so I figured I would pick some up to try out and determine if it’s worth the hype I’ve been seeing and hearing.

I purchased the coconut vanilla soap in addition to the eucalyptus and mint; so far, I’ve only tried the coconut vanilla, and I’ll be honest in saying the scent is a wee bit sickly; it is so sweet it borders being nauseating, and I’m not a huge fan of this particular version. The eucalyptus and mint soap smells absolutely heavenly, but that one hasn’t officially made it into our shower yet.

Here is the product description for Native soap from Amazon:

“Looking for a natural body wash that is free of sulfates, parabens, and phthalates? Look no further than Native! Native Body Wash is clean, simple, and effective. Lovingly made with cleansers derived from coconut oil, enjoy our ‘sud-sational’ lather that it will leave your skin feeling hydrated and clean. At Native we use both safe, synthetic, sustainable fragrances (free of phthalates) and natural fragrances made with naturally derived ingredients. And as always, Native Body Wash products are cruelty-free and vegan. At Native we want to empower people to use cleaner personal care products. We have to take care of our body, it’s the only place we have to live. Native: Clean, simple, effective.”

I’m not a huge fan of the coconut vanilla smell, but the soap itself and its clean ingredients are absolutely something I can appreciate.
