I am loyal to a handful of comedy television series that actually have the ability to make me laugh aloud. I think most people would agree with me in saying that these days, truly hilarious comedy material is a little more difficult to come by than it once was, and this realization is a saddening one, in my opinion. Hence why I said I am loyal to shows that really are funny.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one of my favourite shows of all time, and I’ve watched it in its entirety a few times now. It always brings a smile to my face and has some gold moments and scenes in terms of hilarity; Derry Girls is a masterpiece in the comedy game; another one of my favourites is The Office, but Brooklyn Nine-Nine reigns number one for me.
I don’t want to get ahead of myself here, but I think I may have discovered another series that is, as of now, comparable to Nine-Nine in regard to its humour. I recently started watching Superstore via Netflix, and I am absolutely enjoying it thus far.
Superstore reminds me of The Office in the sense that the majority of the episodes occur in the workplace – in this case, it’s a superstore titled Cloud Nine. Some of the characters from Superstore have commonalities with characters from The Office; Dina reminds me of Dwight, Amy reminds me of Pam, and Glenn reminds me of Michael, but in a far less aggressive and perverted way.
America Ferreria plays Amy, one of the main characters and the store supervisor; Lauren Ash plays Dina, the store assistant manager; Ben Feldman plays Jonah, an employee; Colton Dunn plays Garrett, an employee (I would compare him to Jim from The Office); and Mark McKinney plays Glenn, a bible-thumping store manager. The characters from Superstore are incredibly diverse in terms of their backgrounds and opinions, and this is what makes for some top-tier comedy.
I absolutely recommend watching it if you haven’t already.
