I wouldn’t consider myself a tremendous fan of Marvel and superhero movies, but I do like to dabble in them here and there. I can say I have not seen most Marvel films, but out of the ones I have seen, they’re usually damn good – the special effects in particular.
Blaine fell asleep quite a while before I did the other night, and while scrolling through Netflix titles, trying to determine what to watch, I stopped to watch a brief clip of Morbius. It seemed intriguing, so I decided to give it a watch, and overall, I really enjoyed it.
Morbius stars Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius, a doctor born with a rare and debilitating condition that makes his quality of life rather poor. When Michael was a child, he was acquainted with another boy named Milo with the same medical condition, and the two of them became inseparable.
Once the boys enter their adult years, Michael finds himself at the cusp of successfully finding a cure for the disease he and Milo share. He does end up succeeding, although, because his trials are experimental, he performs the procedure on himself; he is cured of his illness and feels better than he ever has, however, there is a slight catch. His cure involved mixing human DNA with vampire bat DNA, and as a result, he finds himself being stuck somewhere between man and vampire.
You know, just a casual Tuesday afternoon for most people.
It sounds a bit ridiculous, but I genuinely did enjoy this movie. Jared Leto is excellent, and I was quite surprised to see how poorly rated this film was by critics. I think the actors and actresses in Morbius were cast perfectly, and based on how this movie concluded, I do believe there will be a second, which I look forward to watching.
