Healing through animals

I think it is pretty well safe to say that people involved with the agricultural industry to any extent are animal lovers. Whether you work directly with animals or indirectly, they’re a tremendous component of the farming world, and I think my agricultural background, thanks to my family, is the main reason as to why I’ve always held animals near and dear to my heart.

There are additionally all sorts of people who consider themselves animal lovers, regardless of what they do for work, and regardless if they’re affiliated with farming. Personally, if you’re not someone who loves animals, I sincerely think you’re missing out, but I respect different opinions, and to each their own.

Growing up, our family always had dogs. We didn’t get cats until much later, but in-between, we had chickens and goats on the farm; currently, Blaine and I share our dog, Lenny, and our two cats, Lionel and Timmy, and the love I have for these animals is borderline ridiculous, but I’m absolutely okay with that.

There are days my patience is tested between them, inevitably, and I would wager any animal owner would say the same. The pros far outweigh the cons, though, and I also think that is a statement any animal lover would attest to.

Now that Blaine and I have animals of our own, as opposed to former pets that belonged to my entire family when I was still living at home, I’ve acknowledged just how much healing can occur through animals, their presence, and their love. Our dog, Lenny, specifically, has taught me so much already, and having her in our lives has been nothing short of a blessing.

Animals, unlike humans, love unconditionally, so it makes sense healing can be achieved through them. What a privilege it is to be loved by any animal in this world, and to share that same love for them.
