Delving back into yesterday’s post topic, today’s will be an extension of our conversation involving different types of ghosts and spirits that exist in the paranormal realm, and further, characteristics unique to each type.
I wouldn’t necessarily say this is essential information, but I don’t think it hurts to know a little bit about types of entities and how to go about handling them. Until you’re in a paranormal situation yourself, you can’t say for certain whether or not you would find this information useful.
Yesterday we chatted about poltergeists and interactive/intelligent spirits, but there are more than just these two. Another type of ghost is a residual one, however, the term to refer to this kind is actually residual haunting as opposed to a residual ghost. Residual hauntings can involve negative or positive energies, and the root of the haunting itself is usually because something tragic or terrible happened to someone at this specific location, or something wonderful and positive; the spirit in question is tied to this location, reliving either the positive or negative events over and over. Residual spirits do not normally interact with the living.
Demonic entities are purely evil. Some signs to indicate you might be dealing with a demon include lapses in memory; feeling depressed and/or physically ill; strong smells of sulphur; black spots or mist; overwhelming growling sounds; noticing unexplained scratches or bite marks on the body. Demons are incredibly dangerous and violent, and their main intent is possession.
Shadow figures are what the name suggests – looming, dark masses in the shadows and the corners of our eyes.
Portals aren’t actual spirits, but they contain them, and act as a sort of doorway between our real world and the spiritual one.
Ectoplasm, too, is not a spirit itself, but rather a substance that some entities can secrete. There are also orbs, which are believed to be balls of energy linked to a spirit.
