It’s human nature to dwell on negative occurrences in life. I’m not exactly sure if there is science behind this happening, but most folks I know can absolutely relate to the idea that we tend to devote our thoughts and attention to negative thoughts as opposed to positive ones.
Perhaps that means we, as humans, are mostly pessimistic in nature, but I could be wrong.
It makes sense to ruminate on adverse events because our brain tends to latch on to unfavourable events in an effort to pick them apart. In doing so, however, we run the risk of overthinking and overcomplicating things, a practice that really does not serve any positive purpose whatsoever.
If something is in the past, that is where it will remain for eternity. It happened, and if it is in the past, it cannot be changed or rectified, unless you dabble in time travel. Rather than dwelling on the negative and damning ourselves in the process, as difficult as it might be, our best bet in moving forward is to acknowledge what occurred and use it as an incentive to do better. We learn best from our mistakes, generally speaking, and they do not need to be perceived with a strictly poor mindset. There is good that can come from bad, speaking personally.
Some events are out of our control, and others are not. But, when it comes to pondering an event that already happened, and cannot be modified, we really are not accomplishing anything, and are only adding fuel to shit fire.
In life, shit happens. Sometimes the shit in question is small, and other times, the shit is colossal. But, once that shit is flushed down a toilet, it can’t be brought back up to the surface. So, perhaps we should consider viewing life from a toilet’s perspective; once it’s in the sewers, all we can do is hope it continues on its proper journey.
