Have you seen ‘The Deliverance’?

A few nights ago, I came to the sudden realization that spooky season is officially underway and I hadn’t yet watched a horror movie. I brought this to Blaine’s attention and we agreed we would watch one together, and ended up choosing one called The Deliverance via Netflix.

I had heard a thing or two about this film from social media platforms, but I didn’t know too much about it aside from the fact it’s a scary movie.

The Deliverance stars Andra Day as Ebony Jackson, a struggling mother of three children doing her damnest to make ends meet. The father of her children has been deployed to Iraq, making her financial situation almost impossible; her mother, Alberta, played by Glenn Close, moves in with Ebony and her children in an attempt to alleviate some of the burden in a new home the family has recently started renting.

Alberta’s character is quite religious, and upon moving into this home, she notices something doesn’t seem quite right. She notices that her daughter and grandchildren are acting strangely and thinks there may be something evil living with them in the home, and as it is revealed relatively early on in the plot, that is exactly what is happening.

I definitely think this film could have been scarier, and I didn’t find it too intense. What is unsettling about the plot, however, is that it is based on a true story, and the demon that is possessing the home of this family is insanely powerful and evil. I find demonic possession to be one of the scariest things in existence, so despite the movie itself not being too terrifying, the reality of the situation certainly is.

I wouldn’t watch this film again, but some people may find it absolutely chilling. Consider giving it a watch if you’re into horror.
