Gas versus electric: which stove reigns supreme?

I grew up with an electric stove in our home, and I didn’t know anything different until I moved out of my childhood home and into my current home with Blaine. We decided to purchase a gas stove, and while I’m not exactly sure why we decided on gas seeing as Blaine also grew up in a home with an electric stove, I am very pleased, in retrospect, that we did.

I’m a little anxious when it comes to fire. I’ve always been paranoid about leaving an element on, or forgetting to unplug one of my hot hair tools, so I was initially nervous about purchasing a gas stove as opposed to an electric one. I think our reasoning may have had something to do with the fact the gas stove was on sale, but now that I have one, I can say with full confidence I highly doubt I will ever go back to a traditional electric stove and oven.

The main reason I love our gas stove is because of how quickly the elements heat up. If I cook eggs at home, they’re done in less than three minutes. Every day, I am fortunate enough to go to my parents and have lunch with them; when I cook eggs on my parents’ electric stove, it takes about ten minutes.

I suppose I should add I am an extremely impatient person, so in that regard it isn’t entirely surprising I prefer gas.

I would think gas stoves are more dangerous in terms of the likelihood of a fire occurring, and for this reason, Blaine and I invested in a fire blanket. It wasn’t cheap, but we figure it’s worth buying as opposed to risking losing our entire home and all of its contents as a result of a stove fire.

What is your stove preference?
