When Blaine and I initially moved into our home, it was a bit of a mad rush in a sense to determine what we needed and required in regard to cleaning supplies. I had a few things ready to go, but not all of the essentials, and for the sake of saving time, I somewhat haphazardly compiled a list and ordered what I could online.
One of the items I realized we did not have but needed were dryer sheets. I ordered some from Amazon (I think they were Bounce) and used them for roughly the next year.
I was scrolling on Instagram one day when I came across an ad for wool dryer balls. When I was a kid, my mom made use of these in her dryer, so it made sense to revert back to tradition and try these out as opposed to dryer sheets. I ordered some and we have been using them to help dry our clothes ever since.
I thought I would share my own personal comparisons between dryer sheets and balls to display the pros and cons of both. In terms of leaving behind a lasting, fresh scent, dryer sheets undoubtedly have dryer balls beat. When it comes to drying time, I find dryer balls to be the unanimous winner; when I was still using sheets, I would often have to run two drying cycles for larger loads. With the wool balls, one cycle is almost always enough.
In the context of static, dryer sheets undeniably take the win. One of the only downsides to the dryer balls is that, depending on what you’ve got drying in your dryer, they almost seem to amplify static, which isn’t always the most pleasant experience.
Overall, I am inclined to say dryer balls are a better option than sheets because their pros outweigh their cons, they’re more environmentally conscious (less waste), and they’re not full of smelly chemicals.
