Without sounding like a spoiled brat, I wager just about every person on this Earth can admit that at some point or another, they have received a Christmas gift that has been rendered completely and utterly useless. The reason I say I don’t wish to sound like a brat is because I like to think we should be grateful for any gift we receive, regardless of its relativity; this is true, however, I don’t necessarily find it entirely feasible to guess for people and purchase gifts that they don’t like and will never use.
Hence my previous post about the benefits of composing a Christmas list to avoid these sorts of exchanges.
There really is nothing achieved when a gift is given to someone who will not make use of it. Not only is the gift in question something the receiver will never use, but, furthermore, the gifter essentially wasted their own money, and time, buying said gift.
I like to think of gifts for people that are not only relevant but additionally useful. So, I thought I would compile a list of items people truly need to perhaps give you some inspiration for this year’s festivities.
- Gift cards – some people hate the notion of giving a gift card as a gift because it isn’t personal. Personally, I find this ideology ridiculous because a gift card can be used for specifically what the receiver wishes to buy with it. Building on the idea of gift cards, consider essential services; grocery stores, drugstores, clothing stores, auto repair shops, etc.
- Household inventory items, for example, towels, blankets, extension cords, phone chargers, etc.
- Food – whether it is store-bought or homemade, food is always a great gift idea
- Alcohol
- Cleaning tools and products
I realize you might look at the items on this list and deem them impersonal, but again, they tend to be items that just about all of us need and use. Every gift does not have to have a sentimental attachment.
