Costco at Christmastime: yay or nay?

This past Friday, I accompanied my mom and sister for a much-needed visit to Costco. I hadn’t been since August, so there were definitely some items I desperately needed to replenish, and because my mom and sister both needed a number of things, we agreed it made sense to go together.

In retrospect, we were not terribly attentive to the volume of items purchased in comparison to the capacity at which my mother’s vehicle could contain said items, so next time, we will be travelling separately. It was like a life-sized version of Jenga trying to pack everything into her SUV.

As much as I enjoy Costco and the nifty items they often carry, I don’t love shopping, and I don’t love crowds. Thus, it would be safe to assume I don’t particularly love going there, but sometimes I have to bite the bullet and go anyways.

Costco is normally nuts regarding how busy it is on any average day of the week, but Costco around Christmastime is a whole other experience. It was a little squirrely at moments, and naturally, you’re going to encounter folks who have their heads buried so deep in their ass they pay zero attention to their surroundings and occupy far more space than necessary. I managed to avoid any assault charges, though, so I think that counts for something.

I ended up getting some wicked gifts for Blaine, and Costco’s specials during the holidays are worth checking out, even if you’re like me and don’t love huge shopping outlets. I got some lovely goodies that I haven’t seen anywhere else, including a hybrid creation of Animal Crackers and Reese Peanut Butter cups. I tried them at a friend’s house, and they’re fucking fantastic.

Costco is definitely worth visiting during Christmastime, but, be prepared for idiocy, entitlement and large volumes of people.
