The day has finally arrived; merry Christmas and happy holidays to all of you, my incredibly appreciated readers, and to your friends, families and loved ones, too. Whether you celebrate or not, I hope your day is joyful and warm and filled with all of the things that make you happy.
Last night, on Christmas Eve, my immediate family, along with my Aunt and cousins, gathered at my Nagymama’s (the Hungarian term for Grandmother) home. My dad’s side of the family has always spent Christmas Eve at my Nagymama’s, and to be honest, not going there would seriously ruffle my feathers. It is tradition, and we always enjoy it. This year, instead of doing a typical Christmas spread, we feasted on a vast array of appetizers and goodies, and, as always, it was delicious.
Today, on Christmas, we will be spending the majority of the day with immediate family. Me and my husband will go to my parents in the morning for a lovely breakfast and then open gifts with each other, including my older sister. We normally lounge around for a little while after gifts are opened, and in the afternoon we will visit with Blaine’s parents, sister, niece and nephew.
My husband’s last name is Box, so we always celebrate Christmas with the Box family on, wait for it, Boxing Day. The family has grown quite a bit over the last few years, so instead of gathering at someone’s home and feeling like sardines in a can, we all pitch in and rent a hall so it’s a little more comfortable.
Lastly, we will be celebrating with my mom’s family on the 28th on our farm. My mom’s sister and her husband and their children are coming from Niagara, and her brother and his wife are coming from London.
I am incredibly blessed to be able to spend so much time with loved ones during the holidays.
