Method Glass Cleaner Spray vs Windex: which reigns supreme?

I’m trying to distance myself from cleaners that contain a lot of harsh chemicals and additives. Having Lyme disease, my body is far more sensitive to toxins than it used to be, so while I’ve never really had to pay much attention to the ingredients in most things, let alone cleaning products, I am now at a point in my life during which isolating myself from unnecessary chemicals has become my new normal.

I’ve always used Windex to clean glass surfaces, but within the past few months, I notice after using it I don’t feel too hot and I get very shaky. So, I thought I would try a natural glass cleaning solution instead and purchased the Method Glass Cleaner via Amazon.

Here are a few descriptive bullet points about the product, from Amazon’s website:

  • “Glass cleaner made with plant-based shine power.
  • Get a fresh-smelling, streak-free shine without ammonia.
  • Eliminates dirt, dust and pesky handprints for a gleaming, streak-free shine.
  • Cleans windows, glass tile, glass tables + mirrors.
  • Cruelty free. Tested by people, not on animals.
  • This Mint fragrance breezes in like a whiff of fresh air, with notes of wild mint, crisp peppermint + refreshing eucalyptus.”

It smells fresh as hell, which I certainly appreciate, and I am pleased to report I have not had any poor bodily reactions to it upon using it. It does a pretty good job, but, sadly, I have noticed it is not as effective as Windex in the sense that, on specific surfaces, it does tend to leave a sheen, or film behind. It seems to work the best on glass, which is its primary use, But, on a mirror, as an example, there is a weird-looking film that tends to stick around.

In terms of cleaning, Windex does reign supreme. But, for my own health and peace of mind, I think I’ll stick with the Method cleaner, streaks or not.

  1. i wouldn’t recommend this product. Just failed a house inspection because after cleaning all my windows and mirrors, it had a nice streak free clearness, but then they all fogged up bad and I didn’t get a chance to fix it before the inspection. We now must have everything kept overly clean and fix the windows by the inspection repeat.

I’m going to buy Windex, streaks or not, being homeless is worse for my health and piece of mind.

    1. I’m sorry to hear you had such a poor experience with this product! That’s terrible. I don’t blame you one bit for sticking with Windex if it seems to have better results for you and your home. Thank you for reading. 🙂
