Anyone who uses social media to any extent will arguably concur with the statement that the comments affiliated with posts are quite often more funny than the actual post in question. Sometimes, I can watch a few seconds of an Instagram reel and immediately know that the comments section is where the humour is, and I know there will be people who read this sentence and internally agree.
On the other hand, comment sections can become extremely toxic, extremely quickly. I often suspect people who are so vile through social media comments are some of the biggest cowards in existence, opting to post threats and bully others from behind a computer screen.
The point of this post, however, is to actually recognize, and, furthermore, applaud how useful comment sections can be on social media when it comes to products and businesses.
I came across an ad via Instagram recently depicting a new product in the beauty world. It’s a concealer of some sort, and it promises to erase any and all imperfections on the skin. In the video, a woman drew lip liner on her cheek and covered it up flawlessly with the product, and because I have acne, I was naturally intrigued, and, honestly, hopeful.
My hopes were squashed when I opened up the comments on this ad, but I am glad they were, as odd as that sounds. In the comments, a few people were quick to point out that there was a glaring editing issue between frames when this woman supposedly drew the lip liner on her face, meaning it is not nearly as effective as the video shows. Additionally, a few people chimed in who took a chance on this product and pleaded with people to save their money and refrain from buying it because it’s useless.
These are the comments that make me appreciate strangers on the internet.
