Stuck in a rut? A simple refresh might help

I think just about everyone can say that they have felt as though they’re going through the motions, or stuck in a rut, at some point in life. As humans, many of us crave and prefer routine and structure, but the irony of this preference is that, oftentimes, after an extended period of time, routine and structure can become more of a hindrance than a help.

It’s a bit of a contradiction when you pause to think about it.

Personally, spontaneity and I are not friends, and I’ve always been someone who thrives with a regimen. But, despite how much comfort I find in routine, after a little while, I find myself feeling drab and a bit bored.

Thankfully, you don’t have to upend your life to get out of these temporary ruts, and the solution might be easier than you suspect. A small refresh can work wonders, and the beauty of it is that you decide what exactly it is you’re going to refresh to bring some colour back into your world.

As an example, say you’re finding yourself feeling rather mundane about your job. It isn’t exactly realistic to jump from job to job each and every time we get a bit bored, so to combat this boredom, consider exploring some extracurricular activities, outside of work, that can breathe some excitement back into your life.

Sometimes, a simple switch-up with hair, makeup or clothing is all that is required for us to see past the bleakness facing us.

Perhaps rearranging some furniture in a busy room in your home will have you feeling like a brand new version of yourself.

I hope you’re understanding what I mean when I say a small change here and there can make a tremendous difference, and the freedom in deciding what you’re going to change.
