I’ve been working as an English tutor for a few years now. I can thank my husband for encouraging me to post a tutoring ad on Kijiji many moons ago to begin the process of acquiring clients, and without his idea, I’m not entirely sure where I could be with my tutoring business.
I’ve worked with children as young as seven and with adults in their 60s, and this in itself emphasizes the beauty of tutoring – you’re able to work with and assist folks of all ages, from all sorts of backgrounds, and it really can be a rewarding experience.
I often create my own exercises and lessons to work with clients, but sometimes, this is easier said than done. After a little while, some of my own personalized tutorials become a bit repetitive, and I like to keep things relatively new and exciting to keep the attention of whoever it is I am working with.
Since we live in a world so internet-dependent, it makes sense that there are a variety of materials that can be found and accessed online for tutors, teachers, and, really, anyone wanting to brush up on their education or a specific subject. The following sites are some of the best ones I have come across:
Both of these sites offer a multitude of materials on all sorts of subjects, free of charge, which is incredible. You can find just about any topic and grade, and the materials are of excellent quality.
A simple Google search will present you, arguably, with whatever it is you’re looking for if you’re a tutor trying to find something specific, and while I tutor English, I imagine it isn’t difficult to access materials for any other subject you might need. If you’re able to create your own lesson plans independently, you deserve a medal. But, keep in mind that Google can help, too.
