If you read the word ‘croptuck’ and thought to yourself, ‘What in the fuck is that?‘, please don’t be alarmed, because I had the same reaction when I first stumbled across the term. I wasn’t sure if it was a sort of industrial tool or something along those lines, so when I discovered that a croptuck is a device intended for clothing, I felt a wee bit stupid.
A croptuck refers to a mechanism of sorts, composed of an adjustable string that you wrap around your torso. What is the point of a croptuck, you may be wondering? They’re intended to be used to crop, or tuck, an oversized, baggy sweater in an attempt to reduce its sloppy appearance.
I love oversized sweaters, and most of the ones I own are on the larger side. Because most of my sweaters are too big, I often have to tuck them into my pants, and depending on what I’m wearing, it can look pretty awful. Jeans are pretty well the only pants I can get away with tucking a baggy sweater into without resembling Pee Wee Herman, and the idea of doing this with sweatpants is equivalent to a hate crime.
I purchased a croptuck from Amazon, and you can order the same one I did by clicking on the bolded link in this same sentence. I was a little worried the adjustable knobs of the device would irritate me while wearing it, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover I don’t notice the croptuck whatsoever while it is on my body. There is quite a variety of sizes available to pick from, as well as different colours, depending on your preference.
I absolutely love this thing, and for anyone who is like me and enjoys wearing oversized sweaters but doesn’t want to look like a bum, consider getting yourself a croptuck. They’re gamechangers.
