I will be entirely transparent and admit that when Bridgerton first premiered as a television show on Netflix, I absolutely assumed I would not like it, and therefore boycotted it for quite some time. It was a stupid assumption on my behalf, because I didn’t allow myself to investigate what the show is actually about; rather, I assumed it was some stupid, royal family bullshit that would be the opposite of intriguing, so I did not start watching nearly as early as some people.
I kept hearing from others who had watched the first season that the show was excellent, so finally, I caved and figured I could tolerate one episode. Upon watching one, I quickly realized how wrong I was about this show, and I ended up watching all of the seasons, and then Queen Charlotte, and thoroughly enjoyed all of it.
The first half of the fourth season came out a few weeks ago, and while I’m annoyed that the season is being released in two chunks, if you will, the first half is excellent. This season focuses on Benedict Bridgerton, who has always been my favourite male in the Bridgerton family, and how he has yet to fully immerse himself in the social season and be willing to find a wife.
He does manage to meet a mysterious woman at a masquerade ball whom he is absolutely interested in. However, because she is wearing a mask, he is unsure of her true identity and takes it upon himself to scour all of the eligible ladies of the ton in hopes of once again finding her. Unbeknownst to him, this woman is not of royalty and is actually a servant girl, someone Benedict cannot be with romantically because of his own social status as a Bridgerton.
I imagine we will see Benedict in the midst of a challenging and difficult situation in the latter half of this season, and I can’t wait.
