Wanting to learn embroidery? Don’t buy this kit

I have conflicting feelings about artistic expression when it comes to me, personally. By no means do I consider myself an artistic person, and yet, I dabble in and enjoy writing and even a little bit of painting here and there. I can sew, although not well (my lines could rival those of a sewer rat), and I’m not terrible when it comes to drawing.

I guess I’m a bit of an artistic paradox, if you will.

For some ridiculous reason, I’ve been rather curious about embroidery as of late. This curiosity could stem from catching wind that a few of my rugby teammates partake in needlework of various sorts, and because having ADHD means trying every new and exciting damn thing under the sun, I decided to order a starter embroidery kit for me to try my hand at. I ordered it from amazon.ca, and I opted for the one that claims it’s ‘Amazon’s Choice,’ figuring it would be the best one to go with for someone who has zero familiarity with embroidery of any sort.

The starter kit looked and sounded rather promising online, but upon receiving it in the mail and trying it out, I quickly realized I had bitten off far more than I could shovel into my mouth. While advertised as a starter kit, apparently, one should already be well-versed in roughly ten different stitch patterns to be classified as a beginner, because I took one look through the instructional guide and had to fight off tears.

Unless I’m a stage-five dumbass, this thing is by no means suitable for someone absolutely new to embroidery. Naturally, I got the four-pack, so I have plenty of material to fuck up in my attempts at creating something somewhat aesthetic. If you’re like me and are green as grass when it comes to embroidery, save your money and your sanity, and do not purchase this kit.
