I’m fully aware that I’m a wee bit behind in seeing It considering it was released in 2017, but better late than never. Life gets busy.
Moving on.
It is a “2017 American supernatural horror film based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel of the same name,” the film’s Wikipedia page explains. “Produced by New Line Cinema, RatPac-Dune Entertainment, KatzSmith Productions, Lin Pictures, Vertigo Entertainment, and distributed by Warner Bros … it is the second adaptation of the novel, following a 1990 miniseries.
“The film tells the story of seven children in Derry, Maine, who are terrorized by the eponymous being, only to face their own personal demons in the process,” the web page states.
When It was first released, I can recall quite a bit of buzz about it. I heard it was horrifyingly scary, so I was pretty excited to finally see it on my Netflix homepage.
I wouldn’t say this film is as terrifying as it’s hyped up to be, but it is pretty creepy. Starring Bill Skarsgård as It, or Pennywise, the notorious child-eating clown definitely serves as the bulk of the movie’s scariness, if you will, with Skarsgård absolutely nailing the role. The majority of the cast are youths, starring Jaeden Lieberher as Bill, Jeremy Ray Taylor as Ben, Sophia Lillis as Beverly, Finn Wolfhard as Richie, Wyatt Oleff as Stanley and Jack Dylan Grazer as Eddie, and I was seriously impressed with their performances, and further their ability to connect so deeply with viewers through their character portrayals.
For being a horror movie, I have to say that this movie is executed quite well as it touches on several struggles throughout life many of us face through means of its characters. It’s scary, creepy, emotional and inspiring, and it’s absolutely worth the watch if you haven’t yet seen it like myself.
