Seven Kings Must Die: a disappointing end to an epic story

If you’re a fan of and watch The Last Kingdom on Netflix and haven’t yet watched the conclusion to the series, the film titled Seven Kinds Must Die, I would recommend averting your eyes from this webpage to prevent ruining the movie and the conclusion to such an epic tale. I don’t wish to spoil it for anyone.

If you are a fan of the show and have watched the movie, feel free to stick around for a while.

Seven Kings Must Die is a movie, and it is the final installment in The Last Kingdom television series on Netflix. The show is loosely based off of Bernard Cornwell’s texts, but to my knowledge, this film is not. The show consists of five seasons with eight to ten episodes in each, with each episode’s duration being over an hour, usually.

Why the producers of this series decided to conclude it with a movie is beyond me, and I knew it was a bad call long before I even watched it. Allow me to tell you why.

The Last Kingdom is arguably the best television series I have watched. It’s right up there with Game of Thrones, Vikings and Sons of Anarchy in my books regarding phenomenally made and executed productions, and I am not lying when I say finding this show changed my life. The acting, storylines, details and emotions in this show are unmatched, and I genuinely cannot fathom how they could have made the series any better.

The movie, in my honest opinion, was shit. Not shit in the sense of how it was made, or the visuals or the acting, or anything along those lines; rather, it’s shit because of the dishonour it does to the five seasons of the show that came before it. It’s rushed, it’s missing a fuck load of characters that have been in the show for several seasons, and it just doesn’t make sense. I didn’t enjoy it and found it to be a disservice to an epic production that has had my heart for many years.

The battle scenes are wicked, to be fair, but I firmly believe they should have concluded the show with the fifth season. The ending of season five is more of a tribute to this show than the movie ever will be.
