Have you seen ‘Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant’?

Blaine and I wrapped up the end of an era last week; we finally finished watching AMC’s The Walking Dead, and from start to finish, all 11 seasons, it took us about a year to get through the entire thing.

Considering this has been our go-to show since we moved into our home, its completion means we need to find a new series to watch together. Until we do, however, we find movies to watch, and recently, we viewed ‘Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant.’ It is a new release and can be watched via Amazon Prime. It stars Jake Gyllenhaal as John Kinley, a US Army Seargent, and Dar Salim as Ahmed, an Afghan interpreter who accompanies Kinley and a number of other soldiers on a mission. Following a violent ambush on behalf of The Taliban, Kinley and Ahmed are the only two survivors, and after fleeing on foot for a few days, they’re again attacked, with Kinley being seriously wounded this time around. Ahmed is determined to save Kinley’s life, and without spoiling anything, the lengths Ahmed goes to ensure Kinley receives proper medical attention is absolutely astonishing.

Upon his return home, Kinley is unable to recall the details of the rescue mission Ahmed conducted, however, when he learns Ahmed and his family are trapped in hiding in Afghanistan, Kinley decides to return and, this time around, save Ahmed’s life.

When I say this is, in my opinion, one of Gyllenhaal’s best performances, I’m not kidding, and the emotion depicted throughout this movie is astonishing, gut-wrenching and truly beautiful. It provides viewers with a glimpse of the heroism that occurs between soldiers in war, as well as the unbreakable bond of brotherhood they forge. I absolutely recommend watching this movie, and Blaine and I agreed we will be watching it again.
