I firmly feel as though the remainder of 2023 is going to be Cillian Murphy’s, arguably because of the release of Oppenheimer, which he starred in, earlier this year.
To be honest, I think this man should have been receiving the attention and recognition he has since the release of Oppenheimer his entire career, but seeing as Mr. Murphy has admitted he doesn’t love being in the public eye, perhaps this worked out in his favour.
If you know of or have watched the television series Peaky Blinders, you’re already familiar with Cillian. If you haven’t, however, allow me to fill you in.
Hailing from Cork, Ireland, Cillian is 47 years of age and comes from a family with an educational background. His mother was a French teacher while his father worked for the Department of Education, and he has many aunts and uncles who also teach. He has a brother and two sisters, and apparently had begun writing and singing songs at the ripe age of 10, says his Wikipedia page.
Fast forward a few years, he actually wanted to become a rockstar and had a band, and after studying law for one year at University College Cork, he had a change of heart; “Murphy got his first taste of performing in secondary school, when he participated in a drama module presented by Corcadorca Theatre Company director Pat Kiernan … After seeing Corcadorca’s stage production of A Clockwork Orange, directed by Kiernan, acting began to garner his interest,[8] … Murphy pressured Pat Kiernan until he got an audition at Corcadorca Theatre Company, and in September 1996, he made his professional acting debut on the stage, playing the part of a volatile Cork teenager in Enda Walsh‘s Disco Pigs,” says his Wikipedia page.
This man’s acting portfolio has some serious heat. Some of his best known roles include Jim in 28 Days Later, Dr. Johnathan Crane in Batman Begins, Robert Fischer in Inception, Tom in Red Lights, the Scarecrow in The Dark Knight Rises, Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders, a nameless character in Dunkirk, Emmett in A Quiet Place Part II, and most recently, Robert J. Oppenheimer in Oppenheimer.
Murphy is married to Yvonne McGuinness, and has been since 2004. They have two children together, and prefer to remain out of the Hollywood scene.
