I like to consider myself a rather transparent person. I’ve always been honest and I’ve certainly been informed I’m blunt (mainly by Blaine), but I figure it’s always best to tell the truth, and I don’t plan on changing anytime soon.
My transparency does not exclude music, so if I happen to come across an artist that is new to me in addition to their sound, and I happen to love it, you can bet your ass I’ll be telling all of you.
I first heard of Zach Bryan through friends of mine who are obsessed with his music. I knew of him, but I hadn’t really heard much of his music, and to be honest, I kind of figured he would sound like every other new country artist out there – too pop-sounding and not original whatsoever.
I am very happy to report my perceptions were entirely incorrect, and Zach Bryan is a fucking musical genius, if you ask me.
This young man hails from Oologah, Oklahoma, and enlisted with the U.S. Navy when he was 17. He served for eight years and used his spare time while in the military to write songs, which he started at the age of 14, according to his Wikipedia page.
I really don’t know how to describe his sound aside from soulful. Each and every tune I’ve listened to sung by him slams me rights in the damn feels, and his lyrics are beautiful. Moreover, not one of his songs sounds anything like another, an occurrence that is relevant among a variety of big-name artists, and I consider this a testament to his talent and creativity.
Right now I’m really enjoying “I Remember Everything” which features Kasey Musgraves as well as “Dawns” featuring Maggie Rogers, but if you haven’t heard any of Zach’s songs, I absolutely recommend checking him out sooner than later.
