The concept of air purifiers is not one that I ever had much interest in prior to being diagnosed with Lyme disease. Air quality is important, granted, but I didn’t give too much thought to filters and purification systems until Blaine and I began renovating our home and I started experiencing Lyme flare-ups. When we were gutting our house, we came across some mould which severely triggered my Lyme symptoms.
Now that I’ve been living with Lyme for a few years, my attitude toward air filters and purification systems has drastically changed for the better. Mould, dust and excessive dander can cause all sorts of issues for someone who has Lyme disease, so I like to ensure the air in our home is as clean as possible.
My mom was kind enough to order an air purifier for Blaine and me using her Air Miles, and the model she purchased for us is the Blueair Blue Pure 311 Max. First off, I was pleasantly surprised with how aesthetically pleasing this thing is – I was a bit worried the unit was going to be an eyesore in our home, but it has a sleek, simple and modern design which would suit just about any home decor theme. It is obscenely quiet (you can’t even hear the thing when it is running), and it has several settings that you can adjust depending on your preference. The manual recommended sticking with the auto setting, which is what ours is set to, but you can increase and decrease the intensity of the filtering depending on where in your home you place it.
You have the option of downloading the Blueair app on your smartphone to check the air quality levels in your home, and furthermore, to change the settings, turn the device on and off, etc. Overall, I am very happy with the Blueair Blue Pure 311 Max, and I absolutely recommend the brand to anyone contemplating purchasing one.
