What are your 2023 highlights?

I hope the title of this post doesn’t deter anyone from reading. The reason I say this is because yearly recap social media posts are already, and arguably will continue to come out of the woodwork over these next few days, and while there is nothing wrong with sharing the highlights of your own year, for some people, the idea can seem daunting if 2023 was not terribly kind.

I am not going to compose essentially an accomplishments list of my past year, but if that is something that appeals to you, go for it. I will absolutely offer some of the highlights of my past year, though, for anyone interested; Blaine and I got our first dog together, Lenny; we rescued our kitten, Timmy, together, and are in the process of domesticating him; Blaine and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary; our growing season on the farm has concluded.

While I don’t necessarily condone the idea of basically bragging to anyone who follows you on social media channels regarding what happened for you in 2023, I do think the idea of mentally composing a highlight list of our past year is a beneficial practice to engage in. It is easy to lose sight of things that, at the time, we considered to be notable in the last year towards the end of it, so perhaps a reminder of the positive things we experienced this year is a great way to practice some gratitude and mindfulness. And, at the same time, we can reflect on things that weren’t so wonderful and hopefully determine solutions or remedies for the unpleasant events that may have transpired.

A yearly recap doesn’t have to be presented in a social media post. It can occur in your own mind, or simply on a piece of paper, or, if you wish, on Instagram – whatever floats your boat.
