I don’t recall ever writing a post that simultaneously serves as a cry for help, but there is a first for everything, I suppose.
A cry for help is a dramatic way of wording seeking suggestions and advice, but a strong hook in writing typically is not frowned upon.
I am 28 and still have decently bad acne. I believe I first started getting acne around the age of 11 or 12, and it hasn’t stopped since. There have been periods of time during which my skin has cleared up tremendously, and there have also been periods of time during which my face looks closer to a pepperoni pizza as opposed to skin.
Is acne the worst thing in the world to experience? Absolutely not. It is incredibly frustrating realizing you’ve been dealing with acne for over a decade and still can’t find a reliable, long-term product? Damn right. Not to mention the money I’ve spent.
Please believe me when I say I’ve tried just about everything on the market, with a few exceptions; Accutane is something I have never tried, and while it does offer promising and effective results, I’d rather not use it because of my own health history. I was prescribed a medication by my family doctor years back that worked wonders for my skin, however, I wasn’t able to use it for any longer than one month because it can damage the liver.
I drink copious amounts of water; I wash my face morning and evening and after getting particularly dirty working; I wash my pillowcases regularly; I wash my face towels regularly; I use satin pillowcases; I try to avoid touching my face; I don’t wear my hair down terribly often; I take Niaciminide capsules; I’ve tried cutting out dairy; I tried the pill. I’m not sure what else to do at this point aside from seeking professional help, so I wanted to ask all of you out there if you’ve had success with particular products and acne.
If you have recommendations, please comment below and help a desperate sister out.

While my acne seems to be milder, the list of things you do/tried is eerily similar to mine. I still have some acne, though it’s hard to tell now what’s just acne scarring and what’s like active pimples. I certainly don’t have the clear face I want, so I don’t have the magic answer for you, but here are maybe some additional things to try:
Get a topical cream medication. I’ve been prescribed a variety of topical stuff that I put on twice a day. No worries about other medial issues.
Cut out dairy.
Consider birth control. I, like you, was about one prescription away from Actuane, I figured that if I were going to be taking a pill every day, I might as well get on one that will be doing other things for me too. However, I’ve been on two of them over a few years and while I haven’t noticed huge results.
Good luck.
