Despite our greatest efforts to avoid them, bad days are something most of us have in common. As human beings, it is natural to experience a fluctuation in emotions, to a reasonable extent, and our emotions vary depending on what sort of situation we might be facing on a given day. Some days we are at an all-time high, feeling on top of the world and unstoppable, and other days, we aren’t feeling so enthusiastic and may prefer to withdraw from social settings for a little while.
Whether it be a single day, a week, a month, or a year, there is no set timeline for feeling down, and for some of us, these shitty feelings dissipate quicker than they might for others.
I haven’t been feeling particularly thrilled with life as of late for a variety of reasons I won’t detail. When I sat down to write today’s post, I was honestly feeling rather sad, so I wanted to create a post with some of the things I like to do in an attempt to get myself feeling a bit happier. We all deal with emotions differently, so what helps me may not be helpful to someone else, and vice versa.
- Being outdoors: getting fresh air has always been one of the quickest and most effective ways to get my mood up
- Being active/productive: I grouped these two together because they sort of go hand-in-hand. Completing a task I’ve been meaning to get done or getting some exercise almost always works to get me into a better mental state.
- Spending time with animals: Critters, normally speaking, love their owners unconditionally, so getting some cuddles from our dog Lenny always makes me smile.
These suggestions are just off the top of my head, but it is my hope that they can help even one person who isn’t feeling like themselves. Trust me, things will get better.
