I wrote a post a little while ago detailing my honest thoughts about the widely popular Netflix television series known as Bridgerton. I enjoyed elements of it, and while I don’t necessarily think the show lives up to the ridiculous hype it is receiving in the media, it is a decent watch.
I’m halfway through the third season, but I haven’t watched the recently released episodes, so please don’t ruin anything for me.
While I was waiting for the latter half of season three to be released, I figured I may as well tune into Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. Based on the title, I knew this series would focus on Queen Charlotte, who is already a character in Bridgerton; what is helpful about Queen Charlotte is that it provides a glimpse into how Queen Charlotte came into power, her story, and her struggles.
In Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte’s character is unique, to say the least. I would describe her as a stern, intelligent, feisty, witty, and confident woman, in addition to being a little harsh when it comes to certain matters with her family and her position. Watching Queen Charlotte definitely allowed me to understand why the Queen is the way she is in the show, and while both series are fictional, I did find Charlotte’s story and journey to becoming Queen a harsh, lonely, and emotional one. Again, while fictional, I do think Queen Charlotte’s situation was reflective of many young women in Europe during this time who were betrothed, and I cannot imagine what life was like for them. It breaks my heart, to be honest.
I did enjoy Queen Charlotte, but I doubt I would watch it again because it is so damn sad. If you’re a fan of Bridgerton, I absolutely recommend watching Charlotte’s version because it helps to clarify some questions you might have while watching the former.
