Have you seen ‘Instant Family’?

It seems as though evenings in which Blaine and I are able to watch a movie together without him falling asleep are becoming more and more distant as of late. I don’t mean to sound as though I am blaming him – he works long, tiring days, so it makes sense he is pooped at the end of the day. But, it can make it tricky to actually finish an entire movie.

A couple of evenings ago, however, both he and I managed to stay awake for the entirety of a film titled Instant Family. Starring Mark Wahlberg as Pete and Rose Byrne as Ellie, his wife, this movie is based on the true story of the real-life couple who fostered and then adopted three foster siblings – Isabella Merced as Lizzy Viara, Gustavo Escobar as Juan Viara, and Julianna Gamiz as Lita Viara. Lizzy is a teenager while her brother and sister are younger, and Pete and Ellie soon find themselves feeling a wee bit overwhelmed with their family situation.

Neither I nor Blaine knew what to expect going into this movie, but we both really enjoyed it. It has its comedic moments, but I found the film to serve as an excellent platform to advocate for foster children and foster families everywhere. I didn’t know much about either prior to watching this, but I feel as though I’ve learned something, and furthermore, something worth shining more light upon to draw awareness and education to.

This movie isn’t exactly new as it was released in 2018, but if you’re like us and you tend to take your time getting to watching movies that most living souls would have already seen, feel free to recommend it just the same as I am. It’s emotional, inspiring, heartbreaking, and absolutely worth watching, either for the first time or again.
