Unsolved Mysteries is not, by any means, a new series. From what I could find online, the American series first debuted in 1897 and ran until 2010, and it was picked up again in 2020 with new episodes.
The original creators of the show were John Cosgrove and Terry Dunn Meurer, and it originally starred Robert Stack, Dennis Farina and Keely Shaye Brosnan, according to the series’ IMDb page.
I wasn’t able to find much information about who is to thank for producing the 2020 version.
I haven’t seen any of the early episodes of this series, and actually, I only started tuning in back in 2020 when the remake or whatever you might like to call it was added to Netflix. I watched a trailer, was intrigued, pressed play, and that was it.
Unsolved Mysteries is a series about, as the name suggests, mysteries that remain unsolved. What is fascinating about the show is that some mysteries featured have actually been solved, years later, thanks to information and tips from viewers. At the end of every episode, there is a message asking anyone who might know anything about a particular case to come forward and report their knowledge to unsolvedmysteries.com.
I wouldn’t recommend this series to anyone who scares easily. This show deals with very real people and events that they were impacted by involving some sort of mysterious crime. Some of the cases are positively disturbing, so if you’re not someone who enjoys true crime, I would not recommend it.
I find this series to be absolutely fascinating, and I think it is because it is true crime. These are real people, real testimonies, and real statistics and findings about each and every particular case, all of which have yet to be closed.
New episodes were just added to Netflix if you’re a current fan, and if you’re new to the show, welcome.
