Despite the name, it seems as though common knowledge is not, as a matter of fact, all that common. Granted, this varies depending on the subject matter of the common knowledge in question, but there is generalized information out there that all of us should be well-versed in, and unfortunately, are not.
I thought it might be beneficial to dedicate a post to information that has been deemed common but still remains foreign to most people, and to do so I will be referencing a Buzzfeed article written by Ross Yoder.
- Mixing ammonia and bleach can create a deadly chlorine gas
- If you’re bitten by a cat, it’s always best to see a doctor. The bacteria that is often transmitted to a person from a cat’s mouth can become a serious infection, especially if the bite pierces the skin.
- Salt can get blood stains out of any fabric. If the stain is still wet, pour a good amount of salt over it. If the stain is dry, dampen it with some cold water then add the salt. Let the salt sit on the stain for roughly an hour, wipe it off, and then wash the item with soap and cold water.
- Babies that are less than six months of age cannot drink water. It can be fatal. They get all of their required hydration from breast milk/formula.
- If there is something in your oven on fire, do not open the oven and remove it. Keeping the oven closed will choke out the fire as a result of a lack of oxygen, whereas opening the oven will allow more oxygen in, making the fire worse.
- Clean your dryer vents and your furnace filters regularly to avoid a fire. Regarding furnace filters, and this is my own personal advice, change them regularly to cut down on dust in your home.
Check back tomorrow for more information that is pertinent to know.
