As I stated at the end of yesterday’s post, today’s will be an extension of our discussion pertaining to common knowledge that is not, in fact, so common. I figure putting this information out to the public is beneficial for anyone who was not familiar with it, and furthermore, to serve as a refresher for anyone who was aware but perhaps forgot.
Again, this information comes from a Buzzfeed article written by Ross Yoder.
- If you soak a rag in polyurethane, paint thinner, oil-based paint, varnish, or any other volatile oil, the rag itself has the ability to spontaneously combust at any moment without requiring an outside ignition source. The oil in the rag will release heat slowly and oxidize, meaning if you toss them in a garbage bin, they could ignite. My husband is an industrial painter, and he says to safely dispose of them in a metal bin or bucket to prevent them from igniting.
- The U.K. and England are two separate entities. They are not the same.
- Burnt-out electrical sockets and plugs release a fishy smell, so if you’re in your home and you smell something fishy, and you’re not cooking fish, check your outlets and cables to avoid an electrical fire.
- If you have a garbage disposal in your home, you must use it weekly, otherwise it will rust and cease working.
- If you happen to get water in your lungs, always seek medical attention. The water can dissolve the surfactant on your alveoli which leads to secondary drowning as long as a day later.
- If you’re diagnosed with gum disease, it could be an indication you will later develop heart disease.
- Yellow teeth are not always a sign of poor dental hygiene.
I will admit that there is information in this article I was unfamiliar with, so I am glad I took the time to read it and share it with all of you.
