Doritos Collisions: yay or nay?

This might upset some people, but I’ve never been a tremendous fan of Doritos. They’re decent in terms of taste, but I’ve never found them to be particularly amazing, and I would rather eat Miss Vickie’s over Doritos any day.

My husband, on the other hand, is an absolute feign for Doritos, specifically the Bold Barbeque flavour. We always have some in the house for him, and while I might have a couple here and there, it is a rare occurrence.

While grocery shopping last week, I spotted a bag of Doritos that caught my attention because I had never seen this particular flavour before. Upon further inspection, I came to the realization that this bag of Doritos was not filled with a newly released flavour, but instead, contained two different flavours in one single bag.

Doritos Collisions is the name of the bag of chips in question, and the version I found contains the Intense Pickle and the Cool Ranch flavours. I love anything dill pickle-flavoured, and I don’t mind ranch, so I figured I would grab a bag and give them a shot.

I suspect my expectation for these chips was far too elevated going into the sampling process, because I was left feeling rather disappointed. I don’t really know what I was expecting, but essentially, it’s just a bag of Doritos with two different flavours in it. It’s nothing terribly exciting, and while the marketing ploys being used by Doritos to push the sale of these Collisions seem to be working, I can’t say for certain I anticipate these Collisions really taking off.

I suppose one positive experience of these Collisions is the idea that if you consume two chips of each flavour at the same time, you do get a neat take on a sort of new flavour on your tongue. Overall, though, I say nay.
