If you’re unfamiliar with the name Sarah J. Mass, there are two probable reasons for this. The first would be that perhaps you’re not a reader, and the second, building upon the first, would be that you’re likely not reading fictitious fantasy novels.
Aside from these two reasons, if you’ve never heard of this brilliant woman, I think you’re probably living beneath a boulder.
Best known for her three insanely successful series A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR), Crescent City and Throne of Glass, Maas has become one of the most popular names in the writing game, and for good reason; she is a damn excellent writer, and I am ridiculously grateful I decided to hop on the ACOTAR express and give her writing a read.
I started the first book in the ACOTAR series just after Christmas, and I’m now onto the third book in the series with two remaining. I quite literally have difficulty putting her books down, and I find myself thinking about her beautifully orchestrated fantasy realms and characters as I go about my day.
The last time a series of books had this grip on me was when I first read the Harry Potter series. You can ask my family if you don’t believe me when I say I was, and remain to be, absolutely obsessed with the world of wizards intersecting with muggles, and ACOTAR is leading me down a very similar path.
I think one of the biggest reasons why Maas has encountered such success so far in her writing career is because of how detailed she is with her writing. To be able to create non-existent worlds and characters with such intricacy and prompt the reader to visualize these creations in their minds is no small feat, and again, I haven’t found another writer aside from J.K. Rowling with this mesmerizing talent.
If you enjoy reading fantasy, please consider reading some of Maas’ books. You will not be disappointed.
