Have you seen “Alexander: The Making of a God”?

Despite how frequently I rewatch the same shows and series, every now and then, I am inspired to watch something new and, therefore, different. This instance of variety doesn’t occur terribly often, but when it does, I do my best to lean into this curiosity and allow myself to tune into something new and foreign.

I recently started watching a show on Netflix titled “Alexander: The Making of a God.” The Alexander in question is the Alexander, former King of Macedon, a once ancient Greek city state, to paraphrase the IMDb webpage for the series; history regards him as the most successful military commander, and it isn’t too difficult to comprehend why, seeing as the guy held claim and created one of the biggest empires in history.

The series contains six episodes, each roughly 40 minutes in duration, and follows Alexander, in addition to a handful of key other individuals in Alexander’s circle, as he steadily gains power, respect and control throughout Macedon.

Hephaestion and Ptolemy are two men arguably considered to be Alexander’s closest friends, with the former engaging in more than simply friendship with Alexander. Both of these lads are pivotal figures in Alexander’s life and reign and have a heavy presence in the show.

Alexander is played by Buck Braithwaite, and while this is the first production I have seen him perform in, I can say with confidence that I personally find him to be an excellent actor. He embodies the characteristics of Alexander with ease and offers a convincing portrayal of the famous figure we have all come to know, allowing viewers to gain better insight regarding how exactly Alexander was.

I’m about halfway through the series, and I am thoroughly enjoying the equal mix of interviews from historical experts, present day, with acted-out depictions of events Alexander experienced many, many years ago. I recommend the show if you enjoy history to any extent.
