If you were to ask Google the question posed in the title of today’s post, it would answer you with two to three days as being the reasonable frequency to wash one’s hair. This seems like an adequate and relatively normal answer, and I would wager most people abide by this timeframe, give or take a day or two.
I’ll note that the amount of dirt you’re exposed to in a given day should factor into how often you wash your hair. If you work indoors, in a clean environment, you can likely go a little longer than someone who works outdoors or in a dirty environment.
I have somewhat oily hair, and I used to wash my hair every two days. I followed this routine for most of my teenage and early adult years, up until I was suddenly inspired to see how long I could go before I started resembling a bog dweller. I think at first I abstained from washing my hair no sooner than every four days, but then I felt compelled to go even longer; fast forward to now, and as gross as it sounds, I wash my hair once a week.
An important detail in my case is that my hair is blonde. You can get away with greasy hair if you’re blonde far more inconspicuously than someone with darker hair, and I’ve also come to learn which hairstyles best mask my grease-sodden roots when they’re at their most prevalent.
I’m not here to tell you that you should only be washing your hair once weekly. Rather, I’m here to let you know you can only wash your hair on a weekly basis if that is what suits you. It saves time and money, and I can’t help but speculate that it’s also better and healthier for your hair, based on my own experiences.
