I’ve said it before, and I will happily say again how pleased I am with myself regarding my return to reading avidly. I went without the pleasure of reading for far too long, and now that my lengthy sabbatical has come to its conclusion, I can’t get enough of books.
I’ve burned through quite a few over these past few months, and I just finished “Quicksilver” by Callie Hart. I wasn’t entirely sure of what to expect, but I read a review somewhere stating that if you enjoyed the “A Court of Thorns and Roses” (ACOTAR) series, there is a strong probability that you would also enjoy “Quicksilver.”
I would like to thank whoever made this comparison, because I absolutely agree. It’s a great book.
“Quicksilver” tells the story of a young woman named Saeris, a rather talented thief who has hidden her magical abilities for most of her life. Upon attempting to intervene and assist her brother in saving his life, she finds herself in a bit of a pickle, realizing she unintentionally opened a portal of sorts between her world and another using her magic. Her life, understandably, is turned upside down, and the story follows her as she attempts to figure out how exactly to use her magical powers, as well as a moody and handsome young lad named Kingfisher.
I will be honest in admitting I found the first third or so of the text to be a bit slow. Most of the excitement occurs throughout the latter half of the novel, but once you get to it, the wait is worth it. There are definite similarities between “Quicksilver” and ACOTAR in terms of tropes and themes, hence why it’s a great book to read if you enjoyed Sarah J. Maas’s work. There is a second installment coming soon as well.
